KIT #1N HISTORY:
The “history” behind this kit begins in the late 1800s. The word spread quickly in the small town where Wyneken lived that the railroad would be coming through their little burg! Not to miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Wyneken discovered where the tracks would be laid, and he bought some land close to the right of way.
Once the tracks were laid, Wyneken put up a small building to transport goods for people. It was called “drayage” in those days. Business went well and he added on another room to the building with a small loading dock. Back then, it was all horse and wagon, and LOTS of manual labor.
As the town grew, so did Wyneken’s business. The next addition was a dock area to help manage all the freight. Sometimes it wouldn’t even be in his possession more than an hour, the people came so fast to get their goods when the train rolled in. He also had to build a small shed for explosives and oil products, separate from the main building, just in case . . .
After the turn of the century, when Wyneken’s sons took over, the mode of transport turned to trucks. Business was so good the boys built a separate loading dock to handle the materials that wouldn’t mind getting a little weather on them.
Today, there is still business, but it isn’t growing like it did in the past. Longer distance trucking is starting to make a dent in the drayage business. The building is a little neglected, but still quite serviceable. Perhaps a new industry or two will open up in the community and bring some new freight through the Wyneken business.
Kit includes everything needed to build the structures shown, including detail castings. It does not include scenery, figures, vehicles, freight cars, glue, paint, trackwork and benchwork.

I really enjoyed building this kit. I never felt even a bit lost with the clear instructions. Nicely done! A couple of my favorite things were the wall bracing and the corner trim. Both provide a surface to glue the walls to the floor and walls to each other, without having to actually glue the wall edge itself, if that makes sense. So even without being super-careful, there’s no glue seepage to ruin the look of the finished structure. And the scribed wood under the sign you provide… never done that before and makes for a nice look. And plenty of details to make the place look busy. Thanks for the fine kit!
